This exquisitely detailed tapestry featuring an array of flowers and birds was adapted from a curtain created for the palace of Versailles. The original was woven in white satin, then embroidered with silk, chenille, and gold thread. Jacquard woven of very fine yarns, every colorful detail stands out beautifully against the soft ivory ground. -
Based on an original painting by J.B. Oudry (1686-1755), the full scene depicts the Four Seasons. Deer are daring out of the woods, a duck and quail feast on grapes and melons that have spilled from a hastily abandoned vat, and, to the right, a cock attempts to intimidate a hunting dog, and in the process, causes a pair of mallards to take the air. Two doves hopping about amorously near a blooming bush and a young lamb nibbling young shoots. When summer has come, the reaper has laid his sickle down on the freshly cut sheaves, a shepherd dog watches his flock and the flowers and trees yield bright blossoms. -
Few tapestries are as restful as The Park. Instead of weaving a simple "verdure" scene, the weaver has included new elements: a waterfall, a stone bridge, a Renaissance castle, and mountains, as well as all kinds of winged cretures that are flying around. Yet, a peaceful mood has been created. The birds, trees and foliage are all set in autumn and light blue shades, producing quite an extraordinary composition. -

Adapted from two wonderful paintings by J.H. Fragonard (1732-1806). Indiscretion & The Swing were commissioned by a libertine member of the French court. These gallant country compositions are witty, charming and full of vitality, a typical tone of this time, yes these scenes are unusual for their time due to their flirtatious nature. -
